adolescence, high school, college, my first marriage, and moving to the country. Always having been "driven", an over-achiever, I completed four years of college with two degrees and two minors by the time I was 21 years old, worked as an art director and also taught Instrument Drawing at the University of Akron by the time I was 23, and started my own freelance-turned-advertising-agency by 25.
My advertising business grew too big for my home and I moved it into a small building. It quickly outgrew that building, and I bought another building. In this new space, I also opened a bridal store.
Most people associate me with horses at this point in my life, so I always need to clarify that the bridal store was associated with wedding gowns, not horse bridles.
Though both businesses were very successful, it still felt like something was missing. In 1999, my then-husband and I moved to Ravenna, and within a year we created Happy Trails Farm Animal Sanctuary, a non-profit organization addressing farm animal abuse. Over the next 17 years it grew into a nationally recognized and well-respected farm animal organization, assisting with farm animal rescues across the United States, bringing light to animal abuses of all types, helping prosecute cases in court, and intent on holding people accountable for the suffering they inflict on animals. I worked closely with amazing veterinarians, prosecutors, humane officers, law enforcement officials including police, sheriff and US Marshals, and incredible volunteer rescue workers. Though I personally witnessed a great deal of animal suffering during these years, I also saw the best in people who did everything in their power to bring peace and healing to the broken. And I noticed while these people were helping the animals, in their own way, the animals were providing healing for the people caring for them as well.
In 2005 I became a student of Reiki, a practice of energy healing. While incorporating this into my daily work with injured and abused animals, I saw unbelievable healing take place at times when the prognosis for recovery was very poor. I continued my education in Reiki and energy healing, and became a certified Reiki Master in 2013.
In March of 2016, I decided I was at a point where I needed to devote my time teaching others what I have learned throughout the years. My own hands-on experiences gave me far greater lessons and much bigger learning curves than any text book I could have read. I have always done a great deal of public speaking, but by resigning from Happy Trails in the Spring of 2016, the organization I created in 1999, I would be able to devote my time and focus my attention on educational opportunities and creating a healing arts center that would offer peace and healing energy for people as well as animals. Thus, the concept for White Barn Healing Arts Center emerged in 2016, simply beginning with providing Reiki for both private sessions as well as workshops for certifying Reiki practitioners, crystal workshops (I incorporate crystal energy into my Reiki work), and Sacred Circle Meditations every Wednesday evening. It grew from there and was formed as a 501c3 non-profit organization in July 2017, If you would like to receive occasional email updates and a list of workshops, you can sign up by sending your email address to me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
About Annette Bragg
“Never, never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well-being of a person or an animal is at stake Society's punishments are small compared to the wounds inflicted on our souls when we look the other way.”
Martin Luther King, Jr.
I was born in Barberton, Ohio, as Annette Krasovic, (definitely an ethnic name) as my grandparents on my father's side had traveled to America on a ship as young adults from Slovenia (Yugoslavia).
Though I grew up in the city, as early as three years old I can remember holding and hugging chickens and ducks who I simply adored. We were never allowed to have dogs and cats as pets. Back in the day you just didn't bring animals into the house.
As I grew up, my love for animals grew, and there was always something with feathers in my life. One of my childhood ducks named Hagar lived for 13 years, and experienced my life with me from 13 years old to 26 years old, having gone through
“We cannot solve our problems using the same thinking we used when we created them.”
“The world is dangerous not because of those who do harm,
but because of those who look
at it without doing anything.”
“The thinking person must oppose all cruel customs no matter how deeply rooted in tradition and surrounded by a halo. When we have a choice, we must avoid bringing torment and injury into the life of another.”
